A solid offering from the Diageo Classic Malts selection, the Singleton of Glendullan 12 year old is a combination of spirit matured in European Sherry Oak casks and ex-Bourbon casks.

I first sampled it back at Whisky Live 2010 and was instantly a fan. It's exactly the flavour profile I imagine when I think of my preferred Speyside-style scotch whisky: sweet toffee and nuts, cocoa, and dry, fruity sherry notes underpinned by a gentle hit of smoke.

Nose: Light and fresh with citrus zest, vanilla and shaved coconut resting atop the dominant aroma of sweet sherry wood accented by hints of black licorice candies.

Palate: Tastes just as it smells! Definitely a dram for those with a sweet tooth. Rich flavours of coconut, vanilla, apple, oatmeal and toffee all wrapped in a slightly sour taste of smoke and sherry which provides a great balance to the sweeter elements.

Finish: Long and enjoyable and remarkably smooth. The subtle smoke provides a wonderful match to the sweet and resonant sherry flavours of nuts, cocoa, and almond extract.

Overall: Quite simply this is an amazing value. Food-friendly, smooth, and well-balanced, you really can't go wrong with this purchase. Perfect for those new to scotch whisky and there's enough complexity in the dram to appeal to seasoned enthusiasts. A fine, affordable, everyday single malt which is bound to appeal to most tastes and at $46.45 you might as well buy two eh?
