auchentoshan12.jpg Auchentoshan 12's bouquet of medicinal iodine, light saltiness, and rubber pencil eraser suggest this bottle was crafted for a more reserved scotch drinker not interested in the excesses of smoke or sweetness. This lowland malt might find a better reception in a mixed drink or whisky-based cocktail.

Featuring a soft and thin mouth feel, the Sherry maturation is heavy along with old mustiness, leather and bitter almonds. A hint of toffee, honey, and cocoa are nearly redeeming qualities. Dramatic heat lingers on the pallet.

Puckering acidity followed by a light peppermint and ginger complete the finish. A decent bottle in its own right, though it feels uptight and reminiscent of an "old man's" scotch. It may not appeal to younger drinkers.
